When I was in high school, I had a job at a women’s boutique after school and on Saturdays.
Sometimes the store would be busy with customers, but at other times, we’d get slow for a few hours and take care of things that needed to be done in the store.
One of my favorite things to do during this time was to reset all of the clothing and jewelry displays. I would choose new outfits for the mannequins and pull all of the jewelry out of the display case and arrange it across different props.
The job let me be creative and explore in my down time. It let me explore color combinations and materials in a very tangible way.
This piece reminds me of those times when I was rearranging and resetting the displays in my after school job and how free and explorative I felt doing it.
